Starved Rock or The Day The Bears Went Into Nature After Hibernation

One Saturday, the weather was nice and the kids were itching to get out of the house, so we thought we'd make the hour and a half drive to Starved Rock State Park and explore the area. It is a cool set up they have, it's right on a river, has camping and it looks like it offers tons of stuff to do in the summertime. It was barely Spring and the trails were already full of people. The kids loved it.

We are still learning trail etiquette like keeping your walking sticks on the ground and not waving them in the air where we could hit strangers in the face, not taking up the whole path so people can pass, staying on the trail so we don't get ticks or poison ivy and for Millie not dropping to the ground when we need to hold her hand. She is Miss Independent. They'll get the hang of it one day.

Rock posing.

I mean really, who are these kids? Sam looks like the bad boy cousin. They are amazing.

...And the silliness continued as it always does.

We stopped at a restaurant called the Root Beer Stand. It was a cute family owned restaurant that made their own Root Beer. If you like craft Root Beer, this place may be for you, I wasn't a fan of the Root Beer but I was a fan of everything else.

The sunset on the drive home was so pretty, but can never be captured the way you see it. I totally have a little of my Grandma Gibby in me, she really appreciates a good sunset. I am also a sucker for these bridges, they are just so cool to look at.

The trip was a success except when Sam's neck was really itchy and he thought he got poison ivy. Stay on the dang trails, son. It was also our test run for our upcoming Spring Break road trip and the kids knew that so they tried to be good. We will say anything to get our kids to settle down in our cramped car. That is all.
