After arriving in Texas, we had to hurry and find a place to live. School was supposed to start in the next two weeks. We spent the whole first weekend looking at houses and then decided to put an offer on one. Here is the view from our AIRBNB of the city, this was until we could move into corporate housing (an extended stay hotel). Mind you, this was not a fancy place, it was an apartment complex which had the smart idea to AIRBNB it's vacant apartments.
Once we moved into the hotel, it was a lot of Ryan scrambling to get paper work so that we could close faster. There was also talk of an eclipse. We of course weren't prepared for that sort of thing so we went to Target. There were some workers outside that showed us some pictures with their special filters. I told the kids to not look at the sun and they were very serious about it, so we didn't get to enjoy it as much as the rest of the US did.
A view from the overpass as the eclipse was ending and it was getting light again. You really can't tell but it also is just a pretty view.
Ryan's first day of work.
The kid's first day of school. 2nd and 5th.
Waiting for the house to close and stopping by to look at it everyday after I would drop the kids off at school. Here is one of my favorite parts, the front entry and front door. Insert heart eye emoji here.
Then came the hurricane.
Luckily, we were still in the hotel. The hotel was filled to capacity that weekend with people evacuating from the coast. We expected to be in this week long rain fall and then it never totally came this way. Sadly, it decided to hang out in Houston.
The house closed and we had a new hurricane to deal with. Benny.
Here is one attempt to keep him busy while we did stuff around the house.
Our pillow walls were not strong enough for Benny, he eventually found his way to a paint can. we love the kid but this age is not a fun age to be trying to move into a house. He definitely kept it interesting.
By the end of our first month in Texas we were on our way to being settled and I could finally get that first picture of the kids on the stoop. Phew.
