Last Day of School Twenty-Sixteen

The last day of school this year was very stormy and rainy. Totally a contrast to the hot, summer like weather I am used to having as the last day of school in California. I didn't get to take fresh faced morning shots because it was pouring rain and as always we were running late. So these pictures are from after school.

Sam with his teacher Mrs. Ritzman.

Kate with her teacher Ms. Williams.

The kids lucked out in the teacher department this year.
I think they were both perfect for each child and what they needed. I was happy.

There was a thunderstorm warning but the rain had let up so I parked and walked over to the school to pick them up. When I got there the kids were inside waiting because there was lightning. We went inside and said Goodbye to their teachers, came back out, took some pictures on the bridge leading to where the car was parked and then all of the sudden, you could hear the start of the rain. It just dropped buckets of water on us and we ran to the car soaking wet. Rain storms in the Midwest don't kid around.

On a side note because I didn't experience weather like this growing up, only earthquakes, an hour before I picked the kids up, I ran my last errand with one child before summer at Walmart. While I was there and in a hurry to get the kids, the rain picked up again and completely knocked the power out. It was crazy to be in a pitch black store, but what was even crazier was that people just turned on their flashlights on their phones and continued to shop like it was no big deal. Crazy.

So in more weather related news, on the last day of school, during that two hour window I was gone our neighbor's tree snapped and just barely missed our house. We thought it was lightning but later the tree trimmers said that it was the weight of the water on the branches that made it snap. We had to get some pictures. I had Kate stand by the tree to show the scale of how big it was. Once again, crazy.

Anyway, that was our eventful last day of school.
Such a long weird, weather filled post, but that's how it was...
