Party Time For Sam

Sam's birthday was on a school day. Which is a whole new world for me because both Kate and mine fall in the summer, so I've never done the in school birthday deal.

It started off good, we had balloons, the Beatles and the Ting Ting's Happy Birthday songs on repeat and he even got to open two presents before school. But the reality that it wasn't a party day to the rest of the world set in when he went to school.

He had such high expectations for the day and there was even a plan to bring his new skateboard to school to play on after school, but when I got there he was just bummed out. Life, ya know?

Ryan texted me to see how his day was going and this is the picture I sent him. Maybe I hyped things up too much in the morning...

But, the day wasn't totally a bummer. Dad came home, we opened presents, Uncle Cory was in town and he came and went to Sam's favorite restaurant Panda Express with us and then we had cake and ice cream. By the end of the night all was forgotten and he realized he actually had a great day.

Then Saturday came around and we threw a friend party for him. At first it started out that I was only going to invite all the boys in his class and then he asked if some girls in his class could come too. Long story short, we just ended up inviting his whole class, thinking surely not everyone will come. There were a few that didn't show up, but I have so much respect for teachers because we pretty much had a whole kindergarten class at our house and it was madness.
Sam loved it, but, never again.

The half eaten spread. There were these minion cookies that were like .88 cents a box and you just popped them in the oven. They went fast, that's what was on the blue tray.

There was pin the eye on the minion.

A game of try and pop the balloon.
This is when some tears started. Kindergarteners can be very emotional.

Then we played a game of Minion mummy and these are some of the creations:

Those events were all hands on deck type situations and it was towards the end so we were in survival mode.
Shout out to Ryan, my partner in crime and to Cory for watching Millie and taking pictures, Liz for bringing chairs and the bean bag toss game and cleaning up the craziness as the party went on and to the Mom's that thought, "um we better stay and help out."
