Gilgal

This little gem of Latter-Day folk art sat blocks away from my daily commute to school and I didn't even know it was there. When we lived in Utah before we saw Gilgal mentioned on RoadsideAmerica.com but we never made it up there. So this time, we thought we'd check it out.

Turns out a retired man that was a former bishop worked on this in his backyard for some time from the 1940's on.

I don't know where Ryan heard this but someone once told him he had a Joseph Smith nose. Hence the photograph...

The yard is filled with scripture quotes, hymn lyrics and other quotes.

A statue of the guy that was responsible for all this.

At first I thought that the guy that did this was a little crazy and maybe he was. But after walking around and reading lyrics of hymns etched in the rock, you couldn't help but have a certain reverence for the place. He seemed like a guy that loved the church and thought of the best way he could show that love.

Anyway, good stuff. It was cold so we didn't stay very long. If anyone is interested, we want to go back so you can come with us.
