Checking Out Texas: Blue Hole/Lockhart

One thing that I was surprised about after moving to Central Texas was how many rivers and lakes and creeks run through this area. I guess I was expecting more of a desert with cactus setting. With it comes all of this cool swimming holes, some are so clear you can see the bottom and some are very deceiving and seem shallow but can be really deep. I saw a picture of Blue Hole in the fall with all of it's orange leaves and blue water, I knew I wanted to go there at some point. Then I heard about Lockport, it has four of the best BBQ places in Texas, from what I hear, and the town square also is where they filmed scenes from "Waiting For Guffman." So now that I had two cities that had interesting things to see/do and were relatively close we embarked on a Saturday road trip. Here are the pictures from that excursion.

So there are spots around where we live that the water is really clear and blue, I guess that has something to do with the Limestone that is everywhere. Super smart answer, I know.

Fun Fact: This is the oldest library in Texas. Lockhart, TX.

We chose Smitty's and the kids talked us in to ice cream after.

Cool courthouse. We should have watched Waiting For Guffman before so we would know what to look for.
Oh well, maybe we will have to go again and try another BBQ place while we are at it.
