I was in the first grade and my sister Jennifer and my friend Eliza had this plan of being 50's girls. I knew I didn't want to be a 50's girl, but I didn't know what I wanted to be, so I waited until the last minute. I'm sure I had some big dream of being something really amazing, but I wasn't sure what it was.
I want to say it was Halloween morning when my mom came in to show me what I was going to be. She pulled out black leggings, cat ears and nose, a white sweatshirt and a wooden boombox. She then referred to the cat that was on the sweatshirt, the cat was wearing shades and carrying a boombox with music notes streaming out. She told me that I was going to be a "Cool" cat. I was mortified, but the funny thing is, is that I did it. My mom gave me instructions to carry the boombox on my shoulder during the parade at school and walk around like I was "cool". That way people would know what I was. I wasn't just a cat, I was a Cool Cat. I left the boombox in my cubby during the parade. I walked with complete jealousy as I watched the parents gawk and cheer at Lisa, who was a bunch of grapes. The Cool Cat didn't have the same effect and I was so humiliated. Later my mom told me it was because I didn't carry the boombox.
Decisions.
I don't know why I wasn't a 50's girl.

Your Mom was right, the effect was lost without the BOOMBOX!
Everyone knows the Cool Cat's carry Boomboxes!
you are hilarious! You poor child, totally humiliated. Hey I was a 50's girl once and let me tell you, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, I had no idea what a 50's girl was, that's just what mom said I should be.
For Mae and Will I'm totally taking advantage of the fact that that they don't make their Halloween decisions, think of it this way... what could you dress Katie up as NOW that she would never do when she's older?
Laura you so needed the boombox!!! I love the picture!!! Maybe Kate should be a cool cat too..
I knew exactly where you were headed when I saw the picture and laughed the entire way through!:) You forgot the best part about having car trouble on the way there (wasn't George driving?) and nearly missing the parade. You are and always will be a very cool "cat" in my book. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Maybe you should resurrect the costume and where it this year.
AWESOME story! so funny!
L-Train- kate is ADORABLE! Camryn WILL NOT let me feed her at all either!!! But count your blessings because for a while Trent would not eat unless I helped him...the mess is MUCH easier to deal with!!! So Steve HATES to drive on the I15 to Utah, but it definitely brings back so many memories for me!! And I LOVE the pic of you as a cat for Halloween! Talk to you later. Love ya!!!
Have you decided? What will Kate be this year???
